TOM AND MAX P.E VIDEOS

These are two more video examples. when producing these i realy had motive to make it because they where for both riders p.e exams, i choose to go with a dull background to show the sevearness of the winter weather and how the elements wont stop a rider. i choose to film both at the skatepark to show a contrast between the two riders style within the same setting.

This is the first of the two when working with angles i tried to get as close as my camera would alow and used a mixture of still and motion shots. i filmed this over a week which explains both change in outfit and change in lighting. what i feel didnt work with this is the realy dark sections and the fact it wasnt all done in one day i would have liked to have the same background throughout and to show more of a story.

This is the second video this when filming i enjoyed more than the other it was alot less relaxed and max realy felt an urge to push his rideing to get some good clips. Although bith videos are very similer the rideing in the first is alot more intense and the second seems more relaxed. When editing both i chose not to use transitions to me personaly i think they look less professional other than your general fades. This was also filmed over a week period and again i would have liked to add more of a story to the piece.

set 2 photos

winter part one video;
this is the video i have produced for my final outcome it uses a variation of shots from close ups to far away shots and when experimenting with angles i tryed to look for ones i havnt seen used around that area before. i tryed to stay manly at the skate park to show the viewer how we see it as a second home and to show a form of street videography. when editing the piece i tryed to keep it simple in terms of slow motion effect and transitions and mainly changed the exposure in the piece.

Set 1 pathway ideas

Here are my first four contrast photos, it was realy enjoyable to look through photoes i had taken and selecting certain ones to show a contrast. Even to the ain inspiration was from jefferson i chose to not only show a contrast in relaxing and bmx i chooses to choose weather types and night and day which i felt worked well because it shows how different we dress react and how different a place can look.

Artist Analysis; Mike king

Mike King is well known in the bmx scene as one of the best videographers of our time. Hes online video portfolio had built up over the past seven years and he has gone from makeing simple videos of him and his friend to it literally takeing over his life. He works lives and breths video editing and has been hired on countless ocasions to produce advertisement videos for riders and companys and has previously had reguler slots in bmx magazines. haveing the previlige to call him aa friend you see how commited to his work he is and his website www.ffwdbmx.com shows him at his strongest. When producing a video he takes into account angles editing tecniques and lighting and is previlidged enough to travel the world doing what he does which lead to him learning the techniques from alover the globe. when studying his videos ive noticed the following;
when makeing advertisements he never adds clips of a rider falling of this is because it wouldnt make the company he is making the video for look very profesional its only when you see his out takes videos you notice this.
he often shows a clip from more than one angle usualy one close and one distant and when editing avoids crazy tecniques and only usues slow motion when necessary, he mainly usus's filters and colour changes such as exposure to make the piece more artsy.
he dosnt often stay to close to the rider and alows other object to be in the shots.in the video below you see examples of the above, this was when a new bmx part was relesed and mike and cameron took a trip to california to promote the piece.

this next video is mikes most recent and it promotes his website and is of a holiday he recently took. it shows how a video for company is different to a video for fun. yet also shows the similarities between the two.

atiba jefferson research

ATIBA JEFFERSON; ARTIST ANALYSIS

Atiba Jefferson is a modern day photography. he started off as a teenager with a camera who took photos of his friends whilst they were out skating and now owns his own magazine and shoots photos for not only pro skateboarders but all types of sport. he is an inspiration and his intrest and dedications is shown through his photos.atiba sees angles that not alot of photographers do and especialy when it comes to adverts and promotions his pieces truely stand out he is often called to shot nba basketball pros for adverts and during games aswell as working with some of the biggest musicians and sportsmen and woman around. Aswell as the mainstream stuff he is also an established location photographer who uses street photography landscape pieces and uses elements like natural light sunsets and structure to produce intresting and admireable pieces. he travels around the world exploring culture how the sport of skateboarding is different in one country than it does in another which is what i would like to do. using his trip to chinas examples i will try to recreate these photos to show a relevance to the photographer aswell as some of his other pieces.

after becoming greatly acknowledged throughout the professional skateboarding scene Atiba found himself getting the oppertunitys to expand his portfoloio ang work in other sports which he had previously done befor. Basketball was one of atibas pasttimes and aswell as skateboarding he photographed for the LA.Lakers. This photo is off Terrence Williams who plays for the Houstan Rockets. This photo to me is a definition of photography the whole piece is intresting and effective the use of red black and white keeps a controlled contrast and like many other of his photgraphs makes you see the piece as a whole you dont view it in parts.

This photograph is very interesting its a contrast shot which atiba does very often this is uncommon as his contrast shots usualy encoperate skateboarding. its refreshing to see a change and shows a contrast between relaxed and serious and this impresion is given off in the cloathing alone. The use of brightly colourd trainers on older men suggest fun and relaxasion its almost asif they are being young again on the right side and i feel he is trying to represent your inner child in the sense that on the left sad he looks dressed for his age and not as happy. main reason for likeing this piece is that its on the same background which is atibas way of makeing you focus on the people by not haveing a complex

This is drawing away from some of his more planned work and realy takes street photography back to its roots, this was taken on a trip to china, the piece show order and what would seem odd to us as it isnt naturaly seen in our culture yet in their culture it is probly common to see a man sitting in the back of an open van and we see this because behind the main man in focus there is another man looking very similer to the first man doing the same job. The second van further back drws almost as much attention as the firs as it gives a clearer view of whats going on its almost asif its a far shot and a close up shot all mixed into one.

This photo is of ‘my name is earl’ star Jason Lee but what many people dont know is that he was a proffesional skateboarder befor the tv show. He is loved by many skateboarders and tv viewers alike and this photo another contrast show shows maybe the two sides of his life, photos like this realy do help to show two sides of a person, the photo itself islike many other of atibas photos intresting and eyecatching the colours are realy balanced and give a realy warm feel to the viewer and the undershadow relates to his ‘dark side’ the fact he is so close to him whilst in motion without keeping it blured is hard to achieve for a normal photographer but it shows that atiba is on another level.

My individual pathway

for my individual pathway i will produce a series of photographs aswell as a webvideo , the images will be relating to atibas work contrasting peace and action resulting in 2 photos on one canvas showing sport and relaxing in the place the sport happens. the video will relate to mike king and attempt to use the techniques he does of self filming angles and little slowmotion effects. all photos used will be action shots showing the relationship between riding and the lifestyle and the difference between bmxing in streets and bmxing in skateparks.

projection photographs

after takeing the photographs from brick lane i chose my favourite and projected it first onto a white which gave a nice dark feel to the piece as it was onto the white wall. Then the second piece was in a corner of the wall and the piece is shared between the two wall .

this the corner is my favourite of the ones i took, projecting photographs was a new technique for me and was fun to experiment with. The reason this corner piece was my favourite was because it divides the photo and if the lighting was different could share the feel of the piece giving it a mixture.

Artist Analysis

Sharon Elphic analysis;
Sharon Elphick is a contemporary textile designer who produces modern day patterns usualy on a blank white page or canvas abd hasnt realy been seen to use other backgrounds unless the page is filled completely with photographs. Her ol;der pieces mainly uses patterns she found inand around London, and various other parts of the globe. Her latest pieces focus on modern day life where she looks for uncommon things like: graffiti, along with other markings from roads, pavements, buildings which arnt commonly seen and are special.

This is my Elphic inspired piece i used a basic circle frame for each of the 9 photos, i like the way it came out as it shows a difference in trends and expression aswell as a variation of photos some blured some close up etcetera. even tho i dont think i will use this technique on a reguler basis it was good to see something new that isnt seen often and to attempt to work in the style of somebody else ment i had to use images that worked together without a major difference in size and colour.

brick lane photographs

we took a trip to brick lane and that general area of london, with the theme of street photography and lso a topic of blured motion i captured the below images. brick lane itself realy shows a different culture to london all virtualy down the one lane so for a theme of street photography its realy good to find difference and similaritie mixed together and for such an iconic area in london i personaly found it hard to see why its so profound among people but it made for great street photography.

this photograph was probly my favourite of the ones i took, the story behind it is my friend asked her if we could take her photo mainly because she seemed very intresting and 'trendy' she had a certain feel about her that we didnt see anywhere else in the day so when she declined to have her photo taken i chose to photograph her as she left along the road. to me the photo is elgant and represents a stereotype of blonde people tall good looking and fasion orientated. when takeing the photo i chosse not to use a flash as it would alert her and a high apreture would make for a lower lighting.

this photo i felt captured that difference i spoke about earlier the fact of the culture being very different more similer to that in asia, this photo is of a fabric merchant who made sari's he had an open shop with huge amounts of fabrics and textures to work with and the buyer would choose out of these and he would make the piece for them. there was alot of light in the room so a flash wasnt needed and the natural light gives the piece a warm welcoming feel.

this photograph is of general people going about there daily travel in londons liverpool street station. i especialy liked the way the orange lights on the board highlight the area of the photo and how it shows the station at one of its busyiest time.the architecture in the celing also leads the eyes around the photo and helps you to notice the colour especialy in the top building which wouldnt be seen without it.

hornchurch photography

Hornchurch Street Photography (HSP). We took a trip in to hornchurch town center to take street photography although hornchurch isn't as big as somewhere like London are thoughts were only limited by our ideas. when exploring hornchurch we came across a local park but unlike other parks Ive seen it was rich in nature and turned from a general park into a manor. the light that reflected of the trees water and building itself made for really interesting photographs and as the sun set it gave a different feel on the place. i also took photos throughout the town as you can see above from family's shopping to an artistic hidden corner where graffiti produced a piece that was truly a pleasure to look at.

Artist Analysis

Raymond Depardon; street photographer
from what i have researched he mainly produces black and white photos using a range of shadows some bold others light i like this type of phography because the viewer decides what type of mood the photo represents because with no direct colour a mood isnt instantly set. aswell as this i like the way he uses humour and relaxasion in some and dark and scary in others and also a mixture of weird and typial photography. His pieces are realy detailed and have a lot going on in them usualy and usues harizons and architexture to produce sunsets and deeper shades.

in photos with such details colour often distracts the viewer from the point the photographers trying to get across in this photo in particuler you focus on the parts that you are intrested in and find thing out about the piece which in some cases hides those things and this makes his work unique and intresting.

I dont really understand this photograph much it dosnt give any direct feel to it and takes several seconds to look at it enough to realise whats going on and although its a quite empty frame it still interest me for reason i am unsure about it leaves the viewer to make up their mind even when not looking at the piece

Street Photography

The next project was street photography.
Definition of street photography; Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions and other settings.
Street photography uses the techniques of straight photography in that it shows a pure vision of something, like holding up a mirror to society. Street photography often tends to be ironic and can be distanced from its subject matter, and often concentrates on a single human moment, caught at a decisive or poignant moment. On the other hand, much street photography takes the opposite approach and provides a very literal and extremely personal rendering of the subject matter, giving the audience a more visceral experience of walks of life they might only be passingly familiar with. In the 20th century, street photographers have provided an exemplary and detailed record of street culture in Europe and North America, and elsewhere to a somewhat lesser extent.
i was extremely intresested in this project as it relates to alot of things close to me. When looking at street photography in general there theme itself spreads over a a huge range of topics from street art to general people. my aim is to produce a range of photos on several different subjects each giving a concept to street photography.

Blured Movement

This photo is mainly based around the trick itself and although i feel it would work better if the blue helmet wasnt in the way i think it highlights the blur itself and shows consistancy.

Heres the first of my blured photo's, i took this when we had an outburst of snow. the cotrast between the dog and the snow cause a slight blur as he moved. i like the effect it gives because it makes the viewer look at the piece in detail to see whats actually going on its not something you can just walk past.
This is one of my favourite blured motion shots, mainly because it seems controlled where the blur is on the jacket it makes the piece look sureal yet still has the majority of it in focus it raly draws the viewers attention to the movement.

This photo i like not mainly because of the photo itself but the relationship it shows the viewer a moment which leaves them wondering what is actualy going on this is caused because of the blur not being able to precisely see the facial expressions leaves the viewer to actualy look at the photo and not just move on from it.

Signs of the environment: WORDS

Our two words were light and dark and the letters we found around college to make up theses words needed to be either
light or dark aswell depending on which letter. when looking for images we tryed to be as
experimental as possible and took on some ideas from Sharron Elphic whencreating letters out of objects we had on us, we also found an empty clasroom and used the whiteboard and tryed to keep a contrast in colours and for it not to be to far fetched. Sharons work in particular is very precise and finds different fonts and styles which bring the piece to life below is her famous alphabet piece.

View Points

here are four of my chosen photos from around the college the theme being view points. When capturing these photos i also looked for organisation and order as you can see each photo has an order or sequence which is seen in alot of architecture. My favourite of all these would bee the stools, its very uncommon to see this area empty and even tho the stools arnt all in line they still have a repetition .

Focused Shots

Here are my snail pictures our task was to capture focus and i thaught why no take pictures of thing hard to see detail with a human eye so i choose a snail as there is alot to a snail you cannot see unless its through a lense. My favourite of the two is the one with the black and white background it realy brings out the detail in the shell and shows the colour in the flesh of the snail. Even tho snails arnt the most interesting of insects when takeing a photo they have alot of qualitys to make them unique and interesting.

Artist Research

This photograph is of the Hoover dam located in the Tennessee valley. It shows an aerial view of the dam which shows us how it seperates the water from the land by the great wall. It was taken by Patricia Macdonald who is an artist from Edinburgh as well as a writer who has presented her work at several exhibitions.I have many reasons for likeing this photo the main one being the use of the sun as natural lighting it gives the effect that is almost impossible to achieve with artificial lighting the way the rays reflect of the water showing great detail making each unique. Another reason is the separation of land and water shows a real difference between the two as well as showing the mystery of what could be under the water this I believe was the artists intension.

Portraiture

Heres a picture of jenna it was based on the work of..... the original piece was of ex prime minister tony blair, i liked it because it was a close up with bright lighting which realy brought out the detail in his face although mine isnt as strong as one i still like the image and using black and white managed to de blur it and focus it abit more. It was interesting to have directions of where to put the camera the lights and settings as a guide, i enjoy recreating photos so this task i especialy enjoyed.

Photographs i like.

Heres a vans shoe advert, there are many elements that have gone into this which i think makes the piece advertise and work really well. it shows the rider whose shoes they are, a close up of the shoes and the shoes being used all in one panoramic shot and have been edited to all blend together and even tho its obviously edited it works and isn't to over the top.

This is a picture of a hover fly I like it because the photo shows so much detail and that’s hard to capture as it’s a small creature, i enjoy seeing these types of photographs because they show things in a different perspective seeing something look lifesize and seeing the hairs on a bee is special.
